Opening ceremony of wrestling festival kicks off in Sinh village

On February 19, the wrestling festival in Sinh village (Phu Mau commune, Phu Vang district, Thua Thien – Hue province) kicks off, attracting thousands of local people and visitors.

Nearly 100 wrestlers in the province take part in the festival this year. They compete in two weight classes: teenager and youth. Most people participating in the festival come from Phu Mau commune. Besides, there are many other people coming from Thu Le village, Quang Dien district, Huong Tra town and other communes in Phu Vang district.

After the drum of the opening ceremony, the wrestlers start the competition. They try to perform the unique wrestling holds as well as attractive and beautiful moves and pins.

According to the legend, the wrestling festival in Sinh village (alternative name of Lai An village) existed over 400 years ago, and it was considered as the biggest and oldest wrestling festival in the south of Vietnam. The festival is the tradition and the beauty of martial arts quintessence in the ancient capital.

Although going to anywhere, annually local people living far from the hometown of Thua Thien – Hue always go back in 10 January. They go back An village, Phu Mau commune (Phu Vang district) to go to the traditional wrestling festival.
