Culture-sports-tourism week to open in Hai Phong city

A 20-theme street carnival, two firework displays and art performances by leading domestic and foreign artists will be highlights of an upcoming culture-sports-tourism week in northern Hai Phong city.
Le Khac Nam, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, said on May 7 that the week will take place from May 9-18 with more than 30 cultural, sports and tourism events.
The opening ceremony of the week and the second Red Flamboyant Festival is scheduled for May 11 night. Other events will include a Red River Delta tourism fair and a golf tournament in response to the National Tourism Year of Red River Delta-Hai Phong 2013, as well as a photo camp themed “Homeland’s Sea and Islands ”.
Eight art troupes from Laos, Japan, Russia, India and the Republic of Korea will join Vietnamese artists to perform during the week.
All the activities will focus on the topic “Red River Civilisation” with images featuring the cultures, cuisines and heritages of the delta’s 11 localities.
According to the Hai Phong People’s Committee, the city centre now has more than 7,800 rooms available for tourists during the event.
