The event, the seventh of its kind, is part of activities to celebrate the 50th founding anniversary of Quang Ninh province (October 30, 1963).
It also aims to draw domestic and international visitors to Ha Long Bay, a UNESCO-recognised World Natural Heritage site and one of the world's new seven Wonders of Nature, as well as other cultural heritage sites in the locality. The carnival opened with an artistic performance staged by many famous Quang Ninh-born artists, including Quang Tho, Nguyen Ngoc Anh, Ho Quynh Huong, Hoang Tung, Tuan Anh, Tan Nhan, Ha Hoai Thu, Hoang Thai and To Minh Thang.A parade of 10 flower carriages featuring Quang Ninh's tourism resources took place with a blend of traditional and modern music in the background. It was joined by nearly 4,000 people, including representatives of 22 ethnic groups residing in the province. The groups brought to the event their traditional dances and songs such as Phun Voong and bell dances of the Dao, shrimp catching dance of the San Chay and Then singing of the Tay.Pham Duc Minh, a tourist from Hanoi, said he is so lucky to be able to attend the meaningful event."I feel dizzy with the beauty and splendour of such a meticulous and special arts programme," he said.
