Water Sports in Vietnam

If you’re an outdoors enthusiast, Vietnam has a wide range of exciting attractions that you’ll be able to choose from. With a long, beautiful coastline running from north to south, the water sports available are some of the best in the world. No matter what sort of activity you’re looking for, there’s a place and an opportunity for it in Vietnam!

Staying Outside the Water

If you’re interested in taking to the waters but don’t actually want to get into them, there are a few activities that might suit you. There are a number of excellent boating options from north to south that bring guests through beautiful spots such as Halong Bay and the Mekong Delta with choices ranging from speed boats and local boats to state-of-the-art cruising vessels. While many tourists opt for the Halong and Mekong cruises, taking day trips on local river boats is a great way to explore some lesser-known parts of the country… especially if you have some extra time to spare during your vacation.

Getting More Hands On

Another popular water-based activity for tourists is fishing! Vietnam’s coast has some excellent fishing options from basic squid fishing lessons in the Halong region to full-on deep-sea fishing adventures. Between the central Vietnam destination of Nha Trang and the southern island of Phu Quoc, visitors looking to try their hand at angling will not be disappointed!

For those looking to get more up close and personal with the marine life, both diving and snorkeling are available to tourists as well. The best diving and snorkeling in Vietnam can be found off the coasts of Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, Con Dao Island, Da Nang City and Hoi An (around the Cham Islands). Various reputable companies offer diving and snorkeling packages that are well worth the trip out!

For True Adventure Seekers

For those who are looking to really get their adrenaline fix in Vietnam, there are also opportunities to go surfing, kite surfing, wind surfing and jet skiing. Surfing, kite surfing and wind surfing are all possible off the coasts of Da Nang, Hoi An and Nha Trang, though the waters off Mui Ne (near Phan Thiet) are known to be the best (especially for wind surfing). For those who aren’t interested in lugging around their own surf equipment, many of these destinations offer reasonable daily rental fees.

Even more popular than surfing is jet skiing. Found along the beaches of almost all popular coastal destinations, tourists can rent these cruisers by varying time slots either with or without a guide.

Visitors won’t have to look too far to find any of these popular water sports when traveling through Vietnam. When applicable, tourists should always wear life jackets (for example when jet skiing, wind surfing, etc.) and should never take to the waters unless they are extremely confident swimmers. While the waters are beautiful… they can be extremely dangerous, so take care!
